1 Cora Terrace was built in the 1850's and is classified as a South African National Monument. Original wooden floors and high ceilings set a comfortable homely atmosphere for our guests.

We are a small backpackers, and offer a more intimate relaxed armosphere. Most rooms are private. We wouldn't classify ourselves as a 'party' backpackers, but often spontaneous get togethers happen. Great fun.

Port Elizabeth itself is a beautiful city of contrasts, and is an ideal spot to be based while you explore the region. Have a look at our Port Elizabeth page and tours page to get a better idea of what you can get up to.

Facilities include a communal kitchen, large lounge, balcony overlooking the pool, braai (barbeque)

We pride ourselves on a cleanliness, and the bedrooms and bathrooms are cleaned on a daily basis.

From the N2 Highway take the M4 Settlers Way highway (Summerstrand). Follow until the Russel Road turnoff, which you take. Turn left at Rink Street (1st Engen Garage). The road spilts, keep left into Bird Street. Right into Annerley Terrace, Right into Cuyler Crescent. Park at parking lot of ABSA / NMMU Small Business Unit. Cora Terrace is a walkway across the road next to Christ Church Scientist.

Hi Guys,

I would just like to thank you on behalf of Malcolm and myself for the accommodating manner in which you received us at Cora Terrace. Although we didn't see much of each other, I sincerely enjoyed myself in PE and staying with you guys just completed a wonderful experience. I've travelled quite a bit, but this past weekend is right up there with the best of memories.

We pride ourselves on clean and comfortable accommodation. The visitor has a choice between private rooms with either single or double beds, or bunk beds in a dormitory style room. Fresh linen is provided.

Tours

1.Karoo Tour
The desolation and beauty of the Karoo is a must to see. Due to the distance covered, it a two day tour, overnighting at the Owlhouse Backpackers lodge. We leave Cora Terrace at 10h00 and head off into the heart of the Karoo. Stop over in Graaf-Reinet, the ‘gem of the Karoo’ for a walk amongst the Cape Dutch and Victorian buildings and possibly a bite to eat. We then head off for Nieu-Bethesda, a tiny village in a seemingly forgotten valley, home to the intriguing Owl house and Camel yard – filled with glass and cement sculptures, with walls
decorated with mirrors and ground glass.
Overnight at the Owl House Backpackers lodge. We leave again at 10 am, taking a slightly different rout via Somerset East, where we stop for a visit at the Walter Battiss Art Gallery and pop in at Noah’s for a snack. Next stop Cora Terrace where we should arrive late afternoon.

The days can be excruciatingly hot and evenings freezing cold so make sure you are prepared

2. BLOUKRANS BUNGY JUMP
Are you crazy enough?

The tour is suited for both the brave and the chicken-hearted, as there are various options at the Boukrans Bridge.

a. Bungy Jump: The 216 m jump is recognised by the Guiness Book of Records as the world's highest Bungy Jump.
b. The 'Flying Fox' is a cable slide (Foofie Slide for South Africans) and is less likely to paralyse you with fear. The slide is over the arch of the bridge to the middle where you can snigger at those jumping. Good combination to do both the Flying Fox and Bungy Jump.
c. Bridge Walking. This is not walking on the road above. Rather a caged walkway suspended under the bridge. Safe, but feels like you are walking in air with one scary fall below. We recommend you rather take the flying fox to the jump than do the bridge walk - known to change the minds of those committed to doing the jump.

Schedule: We leave at 7am. 2 Hour drive from PE and quite some preparation time before the bridge - stuff like how to pray in an emergency.
After the jump you can have a drink or twenty to calm the nerves and some chow.

On our way back we either stop at Jeffreys Bay or Storms River Mouth for a dip in the sea.

We also have a brief stop for a walk in the Tsitsikamma forest to visit the "big Tree'

Cost: R250 per person. This excludes the refreshments and the costs for the Bloukrans activities (Please note these can be quite costly, and at the last check was R500 pp for the jump and and additional R150 for the Flying Fox)

.3. Port Elizabeth Historic Tour

An ideal half day walking tour to get to know see the city. Port Elizabeth is the 5th largest city in South Africa and serves as the economic hub for the very poor region. Over the lst decade Port Elizabeth city centre has suffered urban decay although the authorities are doing a good job in trying to reverse the trend.

Cora Terrace itself is on the historical route and we wind our way from the residential area, through the city centre, climb lighthouses, and up to St. Georges Park, and back again. We may even stop for a quick beer at the oldest pub in town. While we are not historians we will try give you some insight into the city, its past and its current rejuvenation.

Cost: R100 per person. This excludes refreshments and any entrance fees to museums you may wish to visit. Please note that some museums may not be open when we do the tour.
Times: It is about a 3-4 hour walk and times can be discussed on booking.

Pool area

Our pool area is secluded and sheltered from the wind. It has a large braai (barbeque) and plenty of space to lounge about.

Pub and shop

Our downstairs pub is combined with a gift shop. Gifts are from various places in South Africa, Swaziland and the world. So have a look around there are some unique gifts to everyones taste. The pub leads onto the pool area.

Kitchen and living area

We have tried to maximise the living areas to ensure your comfort and enjoyment. The large lounge sports a fireplace for those chilly evenings as well as a TV with DSTV (Satellite TV)

A covered balcony leads off from the lounge and overlooks the pool area. Great for sundowners while watching the antics below.

Our kitchen is fully equipped. Spotless stove, fridge / freezer, microwave, cookware, crockery and cutlery. Complimentary coffee and tea.
